I got a confession: I barely made it through this writing session. I have been feeling more and more lethargic since the weather down here in South Texas has been warming up since the end of April. I have this thing where I get lethargic and depressed during the hot summer months. I dread this time of year every year. I’m trying to fight against it, but that is harder said than done. Especially, with all the disabilities stacked up against me.
However, I took a nap and I got straight to it. For some reason, Scrivener shut down right in the middle of my writing and my word count monitor for the day was wiped. I had to estimate where I left out on my word count goal progress and I ended up underestimating it.
Thus this is why I tricked myself into writing 1097 words instead of 750-800 words average that I do every day!
I finished Chapter 3 today. I keep spiting my chapters because I prefer short chapters around 1.5k to 2k. It makes it more manageable for me to keep track of everything. I tend to have 2 to 3 scenes a chapter and I find that works well for me. I do not believe in writing big huge chapters. Mostly, because it’s hard to keep up with everything you need to get done in that big chunk of words.
Again, my biggest advice to new writers it hat you have to find out what works for you and then run with it.
Anyway, back to the chapters. I’m about a chapter away until I officially hit the first plot point of Act One. I was a little short in my estimation of that and I plan to write up in until Chapter 5 as I originally planned.
I’m both dreading and looking forward to the second draft. My second drafts are when for me as a writer my writing gets interesting. So I shall let you know about how that goes once I get there.
Now, I’m off to eat dinner and try to catch up on my paying job. I’ll see you guys tomorrow!
